The production equipment for extracting and concentrating Chinese herbal medicines usually consists of the following parts:

I.Extraction part

Extraction tank: It is the core component used to hold Chinese herbal medicines and extraction solvents. Common ones include multifunctional extraction tanks, dynamic extraction tanks, etc. It is usually equipped with a stirring device to allow the medicinal materials to fully contact the solvent and accelerate the extraction process.

Multifunctional extraction tank: It can carry out a variety of extraction processes such as normal pressure, micro-pressure, water decoction, warm immersion, and hot reflux. It consists of a tank body, a stirrer, a heating jacket, etc., which can adapt to the extraction needs of different Chinese herbal medicines, with high extraction efficiency and sufficient extraction of effective ingredients.

Hot reflux extraction and concentration unit: It combines the extraction and concentration processes together. The medicinal materials are heated and refluxed with the solvent in the extraction tank for extraction. The generated steam is used for heating and concentration, realizing the recycling of energy. It has the advantages of saving solvents, high paste recovery rate, and good process adaptability.

Heating system: Generally, steam heating or electric heating is used to provide the required heat for the extraction process and improve the extraction efficiency.

Cooling system: used to control the temperature during the extraction process to prevent the effective ingredients from being destroyed due to excessive temperature. Circulating cooling water is often used for cooling.

Solvent storage tank: used to store solvents for extraction, such as ethanol, water, etc. It is connected to the extraction tank through a pipeline and can transport solvents to the extraction tank as needed.

II.Concentration part

Concentration evaporator: Common ones include single-effect evaporators and multi-effect evaporators. Its function is to evaporate the solvent in the extract by heating, thereby increasing the concentration of the liquid medicine.

Single-effect external circulation concentrator: relatively simple structure, easy operation, suitable for small-scale concentration of Chinese medicine extracts. The combination of external heating natural circulation and vacuum negative pressure evaporation has a fast evaporation speed, can effectively prevent the material from coking and sticking to the pot, and can achieve continuous feeding and discharging.

Multi-effect falling film concentrator: three-effect falling film concentrator, which can continuously feed and discharge, has a stable system, a large concentration ratio, high thermal efficiency, and significant energy-saving effect. It can adapt to a wide range of material viscosities, is evenly heated, and is not easy to crystallize and coke, and has a small amount of damage to the effective ingredients.

Condenser: Cools and condenses the solvent vapor generated during the evaporation process into liquid for recycling and reuse.

Vacuum system: The vacuum state in the evaporator is maintained by a vacuum pump to reduce the boiling point of the solvent, so that the extract can be evaporated and concentrated at a lower temperature, reducing the loss of effective ingredients.

III.Auxiliary parts

Filtering equipment: such as plate and frame filter presses, bag filters, etc., are used to filter the drug solution before and after extraction and concentration, remove drug residues, impurities, etc., and ensure the clarity of the drug solution.

Delivery pump: used to transport the extract, solvent, etc. between various equipment to ensure the continuity of the production process.

Control system: composed of sensors, controllers, etc., which can monitor and control parameters such as temperature, pressure, liquid level, etc. in real time during the extraction and concentration process to ensure the stability of the production process and the consistency of product quality.

IV. Application
